LIMODOR has a strong presence in Austria, Germany, and Switzerland and has successfully pursued its goal of providing customized ventilation solutions for a wide range of residential applications for more than six decades.
The company works closely with wholesale partners, installation companies, as well as planning and architectural firms. This creates a tightly interconnected partner network in which numerous business processes must interact reliably and smoothly every day.
Initial situation: ERP upgrade under time pressure
As part of an ERP upgrade, LIMODOR Germany faced the challenge of rebuilding and consolidating its existing EDI landscape within a very short timeframe. The goal was to standardize previously heterogeneous EDI processes and consolidate several existing service providers across Austria and Germany into one centralized solution.
A particularly demanding factor was the extremely tight schedule: only five weeks lay between the initial consultation and productive operation. At the same time, a total of 14 connected partners with different requirements and individual process structures had to be integrated, including companies such as GC Group, Richter+Frenzel, Holter, Pfeiffer & May, and Frauenthal.
The implementation
Just a few days after the initial inquiry, the joint project team began implementation. In close cooperation with the ERP partner MAIT, the new EDI structure was connected directly to the ABAS ERP system.
A central focus was to make incoming orders available in productive operation as early as possible so that real data could already be processed during the ERP transition. This ensured that operational processes could continue without interruption.
The following EDI processes are used in daily operations:
- ORDERS – processing incoming orders
- ORDRSP – electronic order confirmations
- DESADV – despatch advice and shipping information
- INVOIC – electronic invoices
At the same time as the technical implementation, all partner connections were gradually migrated. Different technical requirements and existing communication channels had to be considered and transferred into the new standardized structure.
Special challenges
The project was heavily shaped by the very tight timeline. At the same time, numerous special cases and existing custom processes from the legacy system had to be considered and transferred into the new environment.
To meet the ambitious go-live deadline, the project team jointly decided on a so-called “silent migration.” In this approach, only the technical connection for business partners was adjusted without having to completely retest and reapprove all formats.
This approach places particularly high demands on the EDI service provider, as existing mappings and conversions must be replicated precisely to ensure seamless data exchange. Despite the tight schedule, productive operations were launched on time.
The result
Thanks to the new EDI structure, LIMODOR now has a centralized and standardized solution for electronic data interchange with its partners in Austria, Germany, and other countries. Orders, order confirmations, despatch advice, and invoices are processed automatically and seamlessly integrated into the ERP system. At the same time, the existing EDI landscape was significantly simplified and placed on a stable, future-proof foundation.
From the initial inquiry to productive operation in just five weeks – this was only possible because all parties worked closely together and decisions were made quickly.
